District Attorney Hoovler Announces Guilty Pleas in
Child Sex Abuse Case

18 Year Old Defendant Pleads Guilty to Three counts of Sexual Abuse In the First Degree for abusing Three Separate Victims

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Friday, February 2, 2018, Anthony Martinez, 18, of Highland Falls, pled guilty before Orange County Court Judge Robert H. Freehill to three counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree. At the time that Martinez pleaded guilty he admitted having subjected three different children, each under the age of eleven, to sexual contact. Prosecutors placed on the record at the time that Martinez pleaded guilty, that they would be recommending a total sentence of fifteen years in state prison when Martinez is sentenced on March 2, 2018.

District Attorney Hoovler thanked the New York State Police for their investigation of the case and the arrest of Martinez.

Senior Assistant District Attorney Michael Milza and Assistant District Attorney Jessica Dovico are prosecuting the case.

“I thank the New York State Police for their investigation on this difficult case,” said District Attorney Hoovler. “Children are the most vulnerable and innocent of victims. This disposition ensures that these children will be spared the ordeal of having to testify in open court. My office will continue to seek severe state prison sentences when children are victimized.”

A criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
