March 28, 2017

Providing the Public with a Direct Link to the DA’s Office and to
Crime Prevention Information and Tools

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, that his office has launched the OCDA Smartphone App, available for both iPhone and Android users. The App is designed to provide members of the public with a direct connection to some of the resources of the District Attorney’s Office, so that users can have access to information about the Office, to resources that could be useful in preventing crime and addiction, and to information that can help in the fight against crime. Highlights include:

1. DA’s Office Information Resources. The OCDA App has links entitled “About” and “Contact,” providing general information about the Office and information about how to contact the Office. The “About” link connects users to the DA’s Office page of the Orange County website. In addition, the App has links to “News” and “DA TV,” providing users with a direct connection to written and video news about the District Attorney’s Office.

2. Law Enforcement Assistance Resources. The OCDA App has links to the OCDA CrimeStoppers portal and to the District Attorney’s Camera Partnership Program, The CrimeStoppers portal allows citizens to anonymously provide tips about crime electronically and also to attach any document, picture, or video that will be sent directly to an account maintained by District Attorney’s Office investigators. Tips can also be submitted over the Internet, at http://bit.do/OCDACrimeStoppers. The Camera Partnership Program permits citizens whose premises have surveillance cameras to voluntarily provide law enforcement with information about those cameras, so that law enforcement might be able to locate video footage relevant to a crime.

3. Crime and Addiction Prevention Resources. The OCDA App provides links to resources about opioid and heroin abuse and addiction, and the heroin epidemic gripping the region and the nation; and about underage drinking. In addition, the App provides a link to the countywide It’s On Us anti-sexual assault campaign that the District Attorney launched in 2015.

“I believe that it is my duty not only to prosecute crime,” said District Attorney Hoovler, “but to forge a strong relationship with our communities. For more than three years, we have been reaching out to our public officials and to our citizens, to learn their concerns about crime, so that we might better be able to prosecute it and prevent it. The OCDA Smartphone App is the next evolution in that community-outreach strategy. The App will permit Orange County’s citizens to have direct access to resources that may be useful to them in preventing crime or in preventing their loved ones from abusing or becoming addicted to alcohol or drugs. The App will also allow the public to more easily assist law enforcement in the fight against crime. All told, the OCDA Smartphone App will provide our citizens with valuable information that they can use to help protect themselves and their families.”

Interested iPhone and Android users may locate the App by searching for “DA David Hoovler” or “DA of Orange County” in their app stores. In addition, direct links to both versions of the App are provided below:
