DISTRICT ATTORNEY HOOVLER ANNOUNCES ATTEMPTED MURDER INDICTMENT IN PORT JERVIS SHOOTING

Defendant charged with Shooting at a Man at the Threshold of his Home
Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that Christopher Sicina, age 22, of Port Jervis, New York, has been indicted by an Orange County Grand Jury in connection with a November 3, 2021, shooting. The indictment charges Sicina with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree. The indictment is the result of an investigation into a shooting occurring on November 3, 2021, at approximately 10:30 PM, where City Police Officers responded to reports of gun shots being fired on Hammond Street in the City of Port Jervis.
The investigation revealed that multiple gun shots were discharged at a residence located on Hammond Street. The defendant is charged with attempting to murder a resident of that home by shooting at the resident while he was attempting to leave through his front door. The defendant was additionally charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree, a misdemeanor, when officers attempted to take Sicina into custody on January 3, 2022.
Sicina was arraigned by a County Court Judge on January 21, 2021 and was remanded to Orange County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. Sicina is next scheduled to appear in Court on February 3, 2022.
“Gun violence in our cities simply cannot be tolerated,” said District Attorney Hoovler. “I commend the City of Port Jervis Police Department not only for their untiring efforts in this case and for continuing to assist in the prosecution, even after arresting this defendant. My office will continue to work with all of law enforcement partner to eliminate gun violence in our communities.”
Chief Trial Assistant District Attorney Richard Moran is assigned to prosecute the case.
A criminal charge is merely an allegation that a defendant has committed a violation of the criminal law, and it is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the State of New York’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
