Program Designed to Provide an Alternative
to Youths Being on the Street During the Summer

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler, on July 22, 2021, announced that the Orange County District Attorney’s Office will be hosting a summer youth gym program. The program will be held at the Ultimate Advantage Gym, located at 800 North Galleria Drive in the Town of Wallkill. The program will be run by Rick Scarpulla, a former coach at West Point for thirteen years, who has extensive experience working with professional and Olympic level athletes, and with youth. The program is designed to give high-school-age teenagers an alternative to spending their summer on the streets, and most sessions will include nutritional, motivational, and anti-drug messaging. The program will provide youth, particularly disadvantaged youth, with alternatives to engaging in criminal activity, as well as life skills and a compelling anti-drug message.

Children who wish to enter the program must be over fourteen years of age and their parents or guardians must sign a liability waiver. The summer gym program is open to residents of Orange and Sullivan Counties.

The summer gym program will be held at the following times, through August 14, 2021:

​Monday through Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.;

​Fridays, July 23 and July 30, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.;

​Saturdays, July 24 and July 31, August 7 and August 14, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

Anyone who has is familiar with Coach Scarpulla knows that he is a dynamic speaker and a first-class athlete and coach. Those who sign up for this program can expect to have an enjoyable experience, and to gain valuable advice about improving their athletic abilities, about health and fitness, and about the importance of staying drug free.”
