Continuing Legal Education Program to be Presented at Virtual
District Attorney’s Association Summer Conference

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, that members of his staff, in coordination with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, will be presenting a program of continuing legal education (CLE) to New York State’s district attorneys. District Attorney Hoovler recommended the program, which will be presented during the District Attorneys Association of the State of New York’s (DAASNY) annual Summer Conference on Thursday, June 25, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the DAASNY Summer Conference and the CLE program will be conducted virtually.
Presenting the program will be: Christopher Borek, Orange County Chief ADA, who will be discussing wage theft in the construction industry; Robert Conflitti, Counsel to the Orange County District Attorney, who will be discussing some of the ethical implications of prosecutions involving labor frauds; and Matthew Capece, an attorney and Representative of the General President of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, who will be discussing worker exploitation and unfair competition in the construction industry. Many elected district attorneys and their senior staff members from around the state are expected to view the program.
“Fraud and theft in our labor markets is a significant and ongoing problem,” said District Attorney Hoovler, “as unscrupulous employers and contractors continue to rip off honest workers and to undercut wage rates that they’re legally required to pay. In my office, we’ve made it a priority to investigate and prosecute labor crimes. I’m proud to have arranged this important CLE program, to bring this material to the attention of my fellow prosecutors around the state, and I’m happy to have my staff participating in the presentation of this material.”
