Defendant who Pleaded Guilty to Aggravated Vehicular Homicide
Sentenced to 5 – 15 Years in State Prison

Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, Dennis Wilson, Jr., 32, of Walden, was sentenced by Orange County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown to five to fifteen years in state prison in connection death of another motorist on March 4, 2017.

On November 21, 2017, Wilson pleaded guilty to the felony of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide. At the time he pleaded guilty, Wilson he admitted that he was driving a 2002 Jeep automobile at about 12:11 AM, on March 4, 2017, on State Route 52, in the Town of Montgomery, while in an intoxicated condition. Wilson admitted that he drove his vehicle across the double yellow line into the opposing lane of travel, striking another car head-on, killing that car’s driver. Wilson also admitted that at the time of the collision his blood alcohol content was .20 per centum by weight. The District Attorney’s Office had recommended a sentence of six to eighteen years in state prison.

District Attorney Hoovler thanked the New York State Police for their investigation and the arrest of Wilson, as well as the Town of Montgomery Police Department and the Village of Walden Police Department who aided in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jason Rosenwasser.

“This defendant’s decision to drink and drive cost an innocent man his life and merits a lengthy prison sentence,” said District Attorney Hoovler. “Fatalities caused by those who drive while intoxicated are as preventable as they are tragic. I hope this state prison sentence will act as a deterrent to all who are tempted to drive while intoxicated. I urge all who are tempted to drive while impaired by any substance to consider the possible fatal consequences of that decision, and make other plans to get home.”
